H175 Signed Into Law

On August 6th, Governor Deval Patrick signed H175, An Act Relative to Title Protection, into law in Massachusetts.  This law adds CPT, DPT, DRPT and Dr. PT to the list of already protected terms for physical therapists in Massachusetts.

The two year campaign, spearheaded by the Chapter Legislative Committee included tremendous grassroots support from Chapter members throughout the Commonwealth.  This bill was one of the three prime initiatives supported at the 2013 APTAMA Advocacy Day.

State Representative Carlo Basile (East Boston) was the primary sponsor and an invaluable partner in this effort.

The law will take effect in October.  Chapter representatives will be meeting with state officials to determine what the enforcement actions are for violations and how they wish to work with us as this transitions to their workload.

Thanks to all of you who've made this bill a reality.
