Email from APTA MA President, Eric Folmar

May 25, 2022

  • Hi APTA MA Member,

I am writing to share significant news with you all today.  After nearly 20 years on ongoing efforts here in the Commonwealth, continuing education (competency) regulations for physical therapist and physical therapist assistant have been passed by the Board of Allied Health.  The language was officially promulgated on April 29th with some additional clarifications regarding implementation having been recently posted.  Official language is attached here.

    What does this mean?

    • 24 CEU credits will be required during your 24 month renewal period.  All credits  must be obtained during that 2 year time frame
      • 2 of the 24 credits must be completed in the realm of ethics and jurisprudence
    • CEU requirements will begin September of 2022.  1 credit per month will be required until your first renewal date (see attached compliance chart)
    • All credits taken since your last renewal date may be counted toward your requirements

The Board of Allied Health will communicate further as well with your renewal notifications.  APTAMA will continue to communicate all information as we have it regarding clarifications and mechanisms that APTAMA will be putting in place to facilitate continuing competence for membership.  We will also be hosting an informative townhall alongside the July 19 Board of Directors Meeting.  We will be sending more details as we get closer to the date.  We are delighted to share this important milestone.

    Sincerely,

    Eric Folmar, President APTA MA
