The Education Committee and Research Committee of the APTA of MA are requesting proposals for presentations for our next conference.

Saturday November 8, 2008.

Clinical Education Workshop (3 hours):
These sessions will allow for comprehensive inquiry into content or skills in a well-defined content area or practice setting in physical therapy. Multiple opportunities for learning should be employed (laboratory/hands-on, demonstration, questions/answer periods, discussion/debate, and/or panel discussion. Workshops reflecting the structure, language, and content of the Guide to Physical Therapist Practice are also encouraged.  Your proposal submission must contain the following:

1.      Title
2.      Course Description
3.      Course Learning Objectives
4.      Instructional Level (Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Multiple Level)
5.      Tentative Outline of time and content
6.      Speaker contact info
7.      Biographies of each speaker
8.      Minimum of 10 current references

Clinical Education Session (90 minutes):
These sessions will be based upon formal knowledge or skills in a well-defined content area or practice setting in physical therapy. Opportunities for learning via active, clinical problem-solving are encouraged and may be in the form of demonstration, questions/answer periods, discussion/debate, or panel discussions. Presentations should be evidenced-based, utilizing either direct or related evidence. If such evidence does not currently exist, please provide suggestions for clinical research in this area. Your proposal submission must contain the following:

1.      Title
2.      Course Description
3.      Course Learning Objectives
4.      Instructional Level (Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Multiple Level)
5.      Tentative Outline of time and content
6.      Speaker contact info
7.      Biographies of each speaker
8.      Minimum of 10 current references

Clinical Case Study (poster or platform):
The platform sessions (15 minutes) will provide an opportunity for clinicians to formally present the examination, assessment, evaluation, intervention strategies and outcomes of an episode of care. Case studies providing either a new perspective on a common clinical scenario or insight into less common conditions are encouraged. If possible, these will be grouped so as to allow for moderated discussion following platform presentations. Poster sessions will provide the clinician with an informal opportunity for professional dialogue.  Please use the attached abstract form to complete your submission. Abstracts should not be more than 300 words.  Please use the attached abstract submission form. Each abstract should include the following subsections:

1.      Title
2.      Purpose or Hypothesis
3.      Number of Subjects
4.      Materials & Methods
5.      Data Analysis (if applicable)
6.      Results
7.      Discussion
8.      Conclusion
9.      Clinical Relevance

Original Research (poster or platform):
The platform session (15 minutes) will provide an opportunity for researchers to formally present the results of work that is either in progress, or completed. Poster sessions will provide the clinician/researcher with an informal opportunity for professional dialogue and feedback. .  Please use the attached abstract form to complete your submission. Abstracts should not be more than 300 words. .  Please use the attached abstract submission form.  Each abstract should include the following subsections:

1.      Title
2.      Purpose or Hypothesis
3.      Number of Subjects
4.      Materials & Methods
5.      Data Analysis
6.      Results
7.      Discussion
8.      Conclusion
9.      Clinical Relevance

Proposal submissions must contain the above information and should be emailed to:

Proposal submissions for clinical education workshops & sessions are due by April 1, 2008. Notification of acceptance will be provided by June 1, 2008.

Proposal submissions for clinical case studies (poster or platform) or original research (poster or platform) are due June 1, 2008. Notification of acceptance will be provided by August 1, 2008.

Proposals will be reviewed without knowledge of the identity of the authors.  Selection is based on compliance with submission content requirements, on their foundation in evidence, clarity of proposal, probable interest to participants, fiscal feasibility, space and time constraints.

Please note:  All clinical case study or original research (poster or platform) presenters are required to register for conference.
